I truthfully never wanted to own a formula 330 ss, as they are known for not having a great ride in lake Erie's very common 1-3 foot chop. However I came across my 2007 with only 150 hours being rack stored and having the twin 496 mags so here I am. It was a huge upgrade in layout and functionality from my 1991 sea ray 310 ss but as I expect it did not even come close to the same ride. I figured I would just get used to it but as time went on I was starting to really despise my boat because of its ride I had to nearly bury the trim tabs to keep the boat from riding transom heavy which causes all of the waves to break mid ship (at the helm). So this lead me to looking at changing prop pitch larger trim tabs etc. then I came across the 4x4 props from hill marine and after a lot of research and speaking with local prop shops I decided it that going moving to the 4 blade from the 3 and down the a 26 from a 28 deg pitch couldn’t make my situation any worse then it already was. Then I talked to Zach at hill marine told him my whole story and picked his brain, he assured me that even if these props weren’t what I was looking for he would take them back and get me the correct ones to do the job. So I got them and immediately pulled the boat and put them on and I immediately noticed a huge change in my rpm’s which was great! Then that next week my wife and I went on a trip from Sandusky ohio to the north side of lake Saint Clair it was a 96 mile ride on the boat we filled up when we arrived and to my surprise I only burned 92 gallons of gas and we cruised up at very comfortable 3500-3800 rpm which runs the boat at 40-45mph. Before with the stock bravo 3 28 pitch three blades I was pretty much 4000 rpm’s to do 40 so that was a huge win in fuel consumption. Now to talk about the ride. I put 100 hours on my boat this summer 60 of those were with the factory 3 blades and 40 where with the hill 4 blade 26 deg, so I have enough hours with both to say with confidence that it is a completely different boat with the 4x4’s and worth every penny! The waves are now breaking at the nose not constantly smacking under my feet, if you have a 330 formula you know what I’m saying! Like I said I logged the hours on these props before weighting this review. And honestly I’m not a big reviewer guy or one to try and influence another’s opinion, however these props made such a difference in my boating experience that I couldn’t possibly not share my experience. My father in law ran his 330 from 2000-2022, and he rode on mine after the prop change and had the same conclusion as me, ITS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BOAT! he is now ordering a set for his 2006 370 ss formula and my dad is getting a set for his 2014 350 ss formula. These props will pay for themselves by the end of the season with what you save in fuel consumption! That alone is worth the buy. In summary I believe hill marine is a great family company, and they actually care about improving the quality of your boating experience!!! If not for finding them I can honestly say that my 330 would be up for sale right now.
